The Transformation

One of the most challenging and rewarding projects we've completed was a 9,000 sq ft outdoor walkway for a private school near Arlington, TX.

This job was particularly difficult due to numerous factors. The walkway had both old and new concrete with varying hardness levels, extremely textured exposed aggregate, high moisture levels, poor drainage, significant cracking, and foundation issues. One entryway alone was over 1,000 sq ft with more than 15 different expansion joints.

Despite the difficulties, we were confident we could deliver a successful outcome. We began by designing a floor that was unique, affordable, and durable.

The results

How We Made Our Customer Happy

To start, we performed a diamond grind on the entire 9,000 sq ft area, including grinding down the exposed aggregate. We quickly learned that hand grinding the aggregate was more efficient than using an industrial grinder. Next, we addressed all minor and major damage. We used a crack chaser to open up the cracks, allowing more product to flow into the damaged areas. We then cut vertical joints in the damaged areas, placed U-shaped rebar, and used tap-on screws where needed to ensure our polyurea-based crack filler properly mended the troubled spots.

We applied our EpoxyRocks® moisture mitigation system to help water evaporate around the slab rather than through it, which was crucial for the integrity of the floor. Following this, we spread a colored polyaspartic base and broadcast a custom polymer flake blend matching the school's colors. After hand scraping the floor, we applied a clear polyaspartic topcoat followed by a ceramic coating for extreme durability and added slip resistance.

The school was so pleased with our work that they decided to use our UV-stable product on the Fire Lane curbs, which turned out fantastic. Additionally, they requested the wheelchair ramps to be more prominent, choosing a charcoal grey color, which we successfully implemented.

This project was a true testament to our commitment to overcoming challenges and ensuring customer satisfaction. By tailoring our approach to the specific needs of the job, we delivered a beautiful and durable flooring solution that exceeded the customer's expectations.
